Moody Monday - Vengeful

I am not a big fan of the Monday. Especially this close to the end of the month. So yes, I'm falling back on The Daily Meme for some help here.

This one is called Moody Monday and suggests you post a picture of your mood. Today's mood is vengeful. Gosh, this is right up my alley today.

vengeful
1. Desiring vengeance; vindictive.
2. Indicating or proceeding from a desire for revenge.
3. Serving to exact vengeance.

Since I really have no life and the children (cats) are sparring in the living room, here are my babies with their most vengeful looks. And for the love of God, Kalli, leave Eddy alone. You would think that long lasting growl would be a clue that he wants you to leave him alone.

I am your kitten overlord

I am still fond of this picture, even though she isn't this small anymore. Every time I turn around, she is longer and fluffier. And not listening when I tell her to quit growing.

Get rid of the kitten or your computer gets it.

I like to think Eddy is telling Keem that this is revenge for Kalli. There are many times I catch him looking at us with this expression. The "Why did you think I needed a little sister?" look or, possibly more accurately, the "I am going to kill you in your sleep for this pain you have visited upon me." look.

Tired. Going to bed. Have to monitor 16 calls a day this week. 3 days left of it. Oh, and we can't put in any over time anymore. You have to tell me this now? So much for working late to get caught up. Grr.

Did you know there's a website all about stealing memes?

This will help me get through November!

Sunday Stealing: The Nudder Meme

1. Who did you spend at least two hours with today?
Keem, of course. Co-workers Jessica, Rykken & Christy and Boss Cheryl.

2. What do you look forward to most in the next six weeks?
Going to LaCrosse tomorrow with Keem, Thanksgiving and Christmas

3. Who was the last person you called?
Beth to tell her I can't go to karaoke tonight because I have to go into work early tomorrow

4. What were you doing at 12am last night?
Getting ready to go to bed - last night was the weekly America's Next Top Model/Stylista viewing with Keem and Kari. Kari was sick the week before so we had 2 episodes of each to watch. Which is almost too much drama to handle in one night. Almost.

5. Are your parents married/divorced?
Divorced. My father is also dead.

6. When did you last see your mom?
Christmas. I think. Um, after looking at my blog, I realized it was in April. Wow. I'm bad at this keeping track of time thing.

7. What are you wearing right now?
Black and white paisley top, purple pants

8. Where is your favorite place to be?
My living room with the cats, watching something fun and either blogging or playing a game on my pretty, pretty laptop.

9. Where is your least favorite place to be?
The dentist's office. Which I am going to have to go to soon because my left side of the mouth is really bothering me - especially when I drink something cold. And apparently one of the wisdom teeth that I swear got pulled years ago is trying to come back on my right side. My mouth is not a happy mouth.

10. Where would you go if you could go anywhere?
Back to Portugal. Travel Europe.

11. Where do you think you'll be in 10 years?
Still in Minnesota. Kari would kill me if I moved. Still working for NABABNA.

12. What was the last thing that really made you laugh?
Probably watching Kalli dive head first into Keem's water glass while swatting her hand away. You probably had to see it but it was hilarious.

13. What cities/towns/villages have you lived in?
Mahtomedi, MN. Saint Paul, MN. Maplewood, MN. Madison, WI. I'm sure there are others. I moved a lot in my twenties.

14. Are you a social person?
Good God, no. I am not overly fond of people. Beth told me once I am not a people person, I'm a person person.

15. Do you sleep alone?
Why does every meme ask this question? Yes. I am 41 and alone. The only thing that sleeps with me is Hippo. And occasionally Kalli.

I love me some TV

Found over at Sarcomical. Years ago. But I am out of posting ideas.

FAVORITE TV MOM: Marion Cunningham from Happy Days. She was a bit ditzy but so nice.

FAVORITE TV DAD: Brandon and Brenda's Dad from Beverly Hills, 90210. No clue what his name was.

FAVORITE ENDEARING NERD: Hodges on CSI: I love him.

RUNNER UP: A RUNNER UP in the NERD category?!? Hiro on Heroes. Or Leonard on the Big Bang Theory

FAVORITE SHOW, NOSTALGIC: Oh, boy, I have no clue. The Electric Company?

FAVORITE SHOW, EVER AND EVER, TLA: Buffy

VERY CLOSE RUNNER UP: Angel (and Firefly. I love Joss Whedon)

CHARACTER I KINDA WANTED TO BE: Sabrina from Charlie's Angels

CHARACTER I REALLY WANT TO BE: Kate from Lost - She's funny, pretty in the girl next door sort of way, independent, slender (not stick thin), smart and has some sort of thing going on with Sawyer. Mmm, Sawyer.

BEST TV HOUSE: It doesn't really count as a house but I love Inara's shuttle on Firefly.

BEST ROMANCE: Sun and Jin on Lost. I love the flashback episodes about them. And yeah, they have had some problems and she was going to leave him but once they started communicating, things are much better. Well, if you don't count the fact that they're on a deserted island. Boy this was awhile ago. Let's add and HE'S DEAD now.

BEST FINALE EPISODE I CAN REMEMBER: I don't like finales. I always have so many questions that I want answered and I hate saying goodbye to characters that I love.

FAVORITE EPISODE EVER: The episode on How I Met Your Mother when Barney made everyone tell their most embarrassing moments? I guess. I've watched a lot of TV throughout the years. Ooh! And every single one of the Treehouse of Horror episodes on the Simpsons.

RUNNER UP: I still think of it now. 21 Jump Street - the episode where they talked about the bullies that they had dealt with in their lives. I like flash back episodes.

FAVORITE RANDOM LINES: You are strange and offputting. Go now. Dracula to Xander on Buffy.

CHARACTER I WOULD MOST WANT TO BE STRANDED ON DESERT ISLAND WITH: Michael from Burn Notice. Or HRG from Heroes.

BEST CHEMISTRY: Leonard and Penny on The Big Bang Theory. Except it's an odd and twisted type of chemistry

BEST DREAM GUY: Michael from Burn Notice. He's a spy! He's the McGyver of the spy world! Plus he gets to hang out with Bruce Campbell.

BEST DREAM GIRL: Huh. I guess Buffy because she kicks ass and looks fabulous doing it

SUPER FANTASTIC BESTEST MOST GREATEST THING EVER: Leonard and Penny's kiss. Wow. Nerds are hot.

Saved by the Paper Napkin

Sheryl from Paper Napkin is awesome because she posted a meme and that made me be able to breathe a sigh of relief that I will be able to post something besides an essay of what my cats have been doing this week. Seriously. I was sitting there thinking "Don't I have anything else to say besides 'Kalli is cute and Eddy is adorable'?" Apparently not. Well, there is the fact that I am seriously starting to think about investing in a suit of armor. Kalli's teeth and claws are very sharp and she likes to use them. We also changed her middle name to Jean so now she is named after Jean Grey from the X-Men. She also has a new nickname - Calamity Jean.

Anyway, here is the meme.

Things I love:

Song you love: I love a ton of music but my absolutely favorite one ever (this week) is "Pieces on the Ground" by The Nadas. Awesome.

Word you love: Besides Awesome? Thwart. I love the way it sounds.

Academic subject you love: Greek Mythology

Hobby you love: Scrapbooking, Blogging

Type of baked good you love: The one thing I can never resist - 7 Layer Bars

Type of sky you love: Blue with big puffy clouds

Beverage you love: Mountain Dew. I am weak.

Vacation you love: I am quite fond of the road trip.

Restaurant you love: Manny's. Mmm. Steak.

Way of getting around that you love: I think I would really enjoy using a Segway. Other than that, it would be in a car with a friend with the tunes blasting and the windows open.

Person you love: Kari

Room in your home (or ideal home) you love: The living room. My shiny computer is there.

Movie you love: The Imposters is my favorite movie of all time.

Book you love: Please. Like I can settle for just one. Anything by Nora Roberts. I read a brilliant one this summer called The Bright Side of Disaster by Katherine Center. Kane and Abel & The Prodigal Daughter by Jeffrey Archer.

City you love: Lisbon

Future plan you love: Moving to Lisbon

Form of communication you love: Email. I'm not fond of talking on the phone.

Junk food you love: Cheez-its. Even better - Cheez-its and Cream Cheese covered with Jalapeno Jelly. Yum.

To do this yourself, just copy and paste into your own blog!

This is before caffeine

And have any of you ever known me to be perky and/or chipper?

Perhaps chipper in that scary "Fargo" way (by which I mean I am full of biting sarcasm. Not that I am prone to shove bodies into wood chippers. That's just gross).

This is seriously cool!

NancyPearlWannabe (or NPW as we cool kids like to call her) posted this photo meme and I thought it was very cool and had to do it myself.

Here are the rules if you also think it is very cool.
a. Type your answer to each of the questions below into flickr search.
b. Using only the first page, pick an image.
c. Copy and paste each of the URLs for the images into
fd’s mosaic maker.
1. What is your first name?
2. What is your favorite food?
3. What high school did you go to?
4. What is your favorite color?
5. Who is your celebrity crush?
6. Favorite drink?
7. Dream vacation?
8. Favorite dessert?
9. What you want to be when you grow up?
10. What do you love most in life?
11. One word to describe you.
12. Your flickr name.

And yes, I am aware that I used the word cool 4 times in one (very short) post. I can't help it. I'm a product of my generation.

Saved from boredom!

So yesterday I was bored but today, Udge has come to my rescue with a meme. Thank you, Udge, for saving me.

Of course, the saving will last all of two minutes, the most time it takes to write a six word biography, complete with picture.

Crazy woman - very fond of trees

I love this picture. Beth took it last year when we went to Kakabeka Falls. It brings back good memories.

Oh, and who else do you know who could have this conversation? This took place last month when it had snowed and the downhill path to the car was slippery because of evil, evil ice (I hate ice).

DM: Keem. It is icy. I am scared.
Keem: I know it's icy. Be careful.
DM: May I touch Tree?*

*Tree is a tree that is growing on the hill next to the parking lot. He is the 2nd tree from the road. I have no idea why I decided to name him one day or why I decided his name was Tree. I think it happened when I was trying to convince Keem to park by the tree and I probably got excited about it (much like Pink Spot that was in our garage that they eventually painted over. Bastards. I miss Pink Spot). There is also Default Tree when there wasn't a parking spot by Tree.

I used to hug Tree at random times and then Keem decided this was annoying (much of everything I enjoy, Keem has decided is annoying).

Keem: I suppose. Do not hug him!

I slowly sidle up to Tree and press my cheek to his bark.

Keem: I said don't hug him.
DM: That wasn't a hug. I was greeting him.
Keem: Large sigh of frustration.
DM: I'm the only person you could have this conversation with, right?
Keem: Yes. Thank God.

Why am I up at 5:12 in the morning? That's a great question, do you mind holding while I check into that for you?

Why? I'll give you 3 guesses. Here's a couple of clues.

He's grey. He's a cat. His name is Sebastian.

AND HE NEVER SHUTS UP!

Anyway, since it's my shift now during Cat Watch '07, here's a meme that I gleefully stole from the lovely Miss Melissa.

Unnamed Meme

1. Name one person who made you laugh last night?

It was actually yesterday morning. Keem and I had the following conversation after watching Eddy start throwing the smack down on Sebastian. Oh, I wish I would have had the camera nearby. Eddy rose up on his hind legs in a classic karate pose (well, classic cat karate pose, I guess) and started flailing his paw. He didn't actually connect with Sebastian's face but it was hilarious, 3 very well excuted slaps.

DM: It's Eddy and his paw of...paw of...

I try to think of something, anything, witty but I am so damn tired!

Keem: Justice.
DM: Hee! The paw of Justice!

This makes us laugh for approximately 15 minutes. All the way down to the car in the elevator. Into the car. On the way to work. It's not that funny but we are sleep deprived.

As Keem pulls out of the parking ramp, we are assaulted by the sunlight. You know, since we've been working this shift from November 1st, you'd think we'd be aware of the fact that the sun is gong to be out there, lurking, just waiting to catch us.

DM: Argh! Bright! Bright! Can't see!
Keem: Blind! Tears! Paw of Justice!

We dissolve into hysterical giggles again. Until I start coughing.

Keem: Don't die, Dana. I would be sad but I wouldn't be able to cry. Because of all the tears from laughing.

And that sets us off again.

2. What were you doing at 0800?

Well, since it is now 05:37, I'll have to say that yesterday at 8 AM, I was trying to sleep. And failing. Because of CATS!

3. What were you doing 30 minutes ago?

Sleeping. The sleep of the just. Until Keem woke me up and told me it was my turn to deal with HIM (that would be Sebastian, just in case you've not noticed the running theme here).

4. What happened to you in 2006?

Um...let's see. Do I happen to have a handy post that talks about what happened in 2006? Why, yes, I do.

5. What was the last thing you said out loud?

SHUT UP, damn it! Do you understand that I have to sleep? Do you? Why are you torturing me like this? Why?*

*I bet you can't guess who I said it to.

6. How many beverages did you have today?

Lots of water. A can of Mountain Dew, a can of Diet Coke, a can of Squirt (I like to live on the edge). A thing of Mountain Dew with supper. Diet Coke would be a lot better if it tasted like Mountain Dew.* And before anyone tells me I shouldn't have Mountain Dew because I'm diabetic, let me just tell you this. I am too tired to not have lots and lots of caffiene. Caffiene is my friend right now.

*Don't recommend Diet Mountain Dew. It tastes horrible.

7. What colour is your hairbrush?

Yes, because my hairbrush color provides such deep and meaningful insight . But it's purple.

8. What was the last thing you paid for?

Dinner from Hot City Pizza. Yummy hoagies.

9. Where were you last night?

At home.

10. What colour is your front door?

It's door colored. Brown, I think.

11. Where do you keep your change?

In Pig. Or Pigette. Depending on whichever one of them looks the hungriest.

12. What’s the weather like today?

Dark. Cranky. Tired.

Oh, weather, not my mood. Um, dark? Cold. Possibly snowing today.

13. What’s the best ice-cream flavour?

Haagen Daz Light Mint Chocolate Chip. Yummy.

14. What excites you?

Right now, I would have to say sleep. Or it could be my upcoming marriage to Co-Worker Jaime.*

*I proposed to him yesterday. But he's allowed to date. I'm done with that stuff. And we're not going to live together. I just want to get married before I die.**

**Yes, it's a joke. Although he is amenable to Bryan marrying us.

DM: Bryan would have to marry us.
Jaime: Who's Bryan?
DM: My karaoke host. He's an athiest minister.
Amber: What exactly does an athiest minister talk about?
DM: Um, love? I guess?

Then I tried to explain about the Church of the Angry Frankensten Monsters. My co-workers think I'm weird now.

15. Do you want to cut your hair?

No. I already cut it. It looks okay.

16. Are you over the age of 25?

Uh, yeah. By 15 years.

17. Do you talk a lot?

Well, Keem tells me to use my inside my head voice a lot so I'd say yes.

18. Do you watch the O.C.?

No. I have enough shows to watch. Who else is excited that American Gladiators is coming back besides Keem and I?

19. Do you know anyone named Steven?

Not to my knowlege.

20. Do you make up your own words?

Yes. Mainly by combining words - shup (shut up), vant (vent/rant).

This amused me today.

21. Are you a jealous person?

Of what? People who are sleeping right now?

22. Name a friend whose name starts with the letter ‘A’

Amber.

23. Name a friend whose name starts with the letter ‘K’

Keem

24. Who’s the first person on your received call list?

Unknown Caller

25. What does the last text message you received say

It was from the cell phone company.

26. Do you chew on your straw?

Why would I chew on my straw when there are perfectly good pens around here.

27. Do you have curly hair?

No. My hair hates me.

28. Where’s the next place you’re going to?

Hopefully bed.

29. Who’s the rudest person in your life?

Probably me. I can be bitchy and have no filter sometimes.

30. What was the last thing you ate?

Hoagie from Hot City.

31. Will you get married in the future?

Unless it is to Co-worker Jaime, probably not.

32. What’s the best movie you’ve seen in the past 2 weeks?

Enchanted!

33. Is there anyone you like right now?

How to you mean this like? Is this friendship like because I have tons of those people. If it's romantic like, been there, done that.

34. When was the last time you did the dishes?

The dishes are not on my chore list. Unloading the dishasher is. I'm a little behind on that.

35. Are you currently depressed?

Yes. That's what Effexor is for.

36. Did you cry today?

Not yet. I will if Sebastian doesn't shut up soon.

37. Why did you answer and post this?

Needed something to do while I tried to convince Sebastian to be quiet.

I am slightly overwhelmed BUT! I bring you a meme

I just sat down with my new boss Cheryl (formerly my old boss Cheryl but new boss Cheryl left the department and then I got promoted and am working for old boss Cheryl again. Try to keep up, people) and the other QA monitor, co-worker Jessica, to discuss what my responsibilities will be with my brand new, exciting position. Apparently cloning myself is involved because the list of tasks that I have is, well, more than one person can do in a 40 hour work week. Which is why Jessica was telling us that she goes home and works for another two hours each night. Um, yikes.

I am sure that once I actually learn how to do all the tasks, I'll be able to calm down. And I am excited that I get to work on exciting projects, involving working with Excel and Word. This is good. I like both of these things. But for now, I'm unable to formulate sentences that actually make sense so I will not be telling you about my exciting weekend and Beth's puzzle updates*. That will have to wait for tomorrow.

*Don't you just love it when I leave you hanging like that? I know you are avidly waiting to know what this is all about.

Oh, Udge is doing this and I am all about peer pressure and giving things to people so the first five commenters to sign up for the meme here and post the same promise on their blogs will receive a small present-like thing from me. It will help jumpstart the holiday spirit for me. You will have to provide me with your real name and address but please keep in mind that I don't drive and so probably would not be able to stalk you. Unless I am able to convince the Greyhound bus driver to circle around your house obsessively. I think that's unlikely. I have no idea what the small present-like thing will be but I must warn you, there is the chance you could receive a monkey sitting in a chair. I can be very strange. Just ask Beth.

Halloween Meme and an exciting update

Nothing that exciting going on here except that I have been sick and by sick I mean suffering from some sort of plague that has turned my life into an adventure. Not Adventure In Babysitting but more of an adventure titled Will Dana Make It To The Bathroom In Time? And the answer is, for those of you dying to know, is No. Not always. That is all I am going to say about this except for the fact that you know, maybe Pepper Jack cheese is not the best breakfast choice.

Still waiting to hear about the QA position.* Keem did not get the Supervisor position (either one of them) but did have her interview for Training and that appeared to go well.

*No longer waiting to hear about the QA position. I got it!!!!!! Yay! I am very excited. I start officially on November 1st.

Anyway, stole this from Miss Melissa because it was fun and I needed something to do. I am bored, bored, bored because I don't have any new books to read. Well, that's not true, I do have some but they are not what I want to read. I want something witty and fun and joyful, not a depressing book about some 12 year old who had a really crappy life and then shot someone. I'm the type of person that has to finish a book once I start it but I am really tempted to stop before it gets any more soul-wrenching. It's well written but my God, I just want to scoop this poor kid up and save him.

What’s the scariest movie you’ve ever seen?

I don’t like gore so I very rarely ever watch it. Some of the ones that really have freaked me out were “Scary Movie 3 (I know it was a spoof on Scary Movies but it was still scary so shut up)”, “The Eyes of Laura Mars (saw it when I was 12, about a woman who can see through the eyes of a killer)”, “Stir of Echoes (my sister insisted on watching it and so I hung out in the bathroom and watched part of it through the crack in the door)” and “The Watcher in the Woods.” That one was very frightening. It had a very psychological feel to it and was spooky more than scary. I still can remember parts of it and it just creeped me out. Best scary movie ever? The Spiral Staircase. Black and white movie about a serial killer who is after women with deformities. The main character is a woman who can’t talk due to a traumatic event and he is after her as well.

What was your favorite Halloween costume as a child?

I don’t remember. My favorite costume as an adult was Queen of the Universe. Complete with stars velcroed onto my shirt, construction paper crown, etc.

Given enough money what would be your fantasy Halloween costume?

Queen of the Universe. But, you know, there would be the actual Queen of the Universe salary to go with the costume. And real stars. I would SPARKLE!

When was the last time you went trick-or-treating?

How am I expected to remember this? Um, yesterday when I hit up Keem’s candy dish?

What is your favorite Halloween candy?

I’m quite fond of the mini Reese’s peanut butter cups but I also like milk duds. Pretty much as long as the chocolate is covering something, I like it. Plain chocolate? Blech.

Tell us about a scary nightmare you once had?

Oh, there was the one where the neighbors had an evil old man living in their basement and he had a giant oven where he would cremate people. There was the evil woman who turned all of her rivals into statues (that was probably after seeing some stupid movie about Heracles and how this woman turned her lovers into statues after she was done with them but lost out on his love so she dove into the statue making stuff herself). There were the aliens. There was the serial killer…have I mentioned that I have an overactive imagination?

What is your supernatural fear?

I’m afraid of vampires. They’re out there. Lurking. But if the vampires happen to be Angel and/or Spike, I’m okay with them. And Henry from Blood Ties. He's kind of hot. I like the cop better though.

What is your ‘creepy-crawly’ fear?

Clowns. Insects. Republicans (oh, like you’d be able to resist listing that).

Tell us about a time when you saw a ghost, or heard something go bump in the night?

So my friend LeeAnn and I have this apartment in North Saint Paul. One night I’m in the living room and I see something out of the corner of my eye. Someone (I assume it is LeeAnn) is going to the bathroom. This happens on and off for a few hours. Either she is really thirsty or has the bladder the size of a pea. But for some reason, something compels me to stare straight at the television and not turn my head at all.

The next morning I ask her why she kept visiting the bathroom. The answer? “I didn’t leave my room once I went to bed.” Then she asks me why I came into her room and shut her window. Uh, I didn’t. Sure enough, the window over her bed is shut, the one across the room is still open. Odd. Plus, she said that when this person came into the room, LeeAnn found herself unable to open her eyes.

We figured out we had a ghost, not overly surprising, it is an apartment complex, I’m sure someone has died here. I name him Mr. Ghost. Sometimes I can see him out of the corner of my eye. Mainly he just hung around and rattles the door when he wanted to leave the room (Figures I have the only ghost in the history of ghosthood who cannot walk through walls). And before you say it’s the wind, all the windows were closed.

Would you stay overnight in a real haunted house?

Depends. Are the ghosts friendly? Or are they the type to fly around and try to scare you out of the house? Friendly I can handle. Scary and I do not mix well.

Are you a traditionalist or a creative carver of your Jack-O’Lantern?

I would like to say that I am creative and that my pumpkins are fantastic and you will see them on those emails that get forwarded around to everyone but the truth is that I’m not very artistic. My pumpkins, even the traditional ones, look like a slightly deranged 2 year old got a hold of a knife.

How much do you decorate your house at Halloween?

Don’t. I have a fake pumpkin somewhere. Keem decorates her desk. Does that count?

What do you want on your tombstone?

Pepperoni and Sausage. Yes, yes, dumb joke. Sorry.

No, actually I found this quote that I absolutely loved and I would like that on my tombstone.

Don't cry because it's over - smile because it happened. – Dr. Seuss.

Is that not the most fitting thing ever?

Anyway, if you want to do this, go ahead. Let me know because I like memes. I am a dork.

Thief! Thief! AKA as I stole a meme

Brought to you from the lovely and talented Miss Melissa who is my favorite word nerd ever (but still hasn't emailed me so I can give her the bookmarks I lovingly crafted for her. Sob!).

1. YOUR ROCK STAR NAME: (first pet & current car)

Sassy. Or Susie Boy. Notice the lack of a last name. Non-existent El Caminos don't count.

2.YOUR GANGSTA NAME: (fave ice cream flavor, favorite cookie)

Light Mint Chip Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip. Somehow I find it hard to believe anyone would be feel threatened by that.

3. YOUR “FLY Guy/Girl” NAME: (first initial of first name, first three letters of your last name)

D-Vit. Yeah. That's exciting.

4. YOUR DETECTIVE NAME: (favorite color, favorite animal)

Pink Kitty. Yay! Missy and I have the same name. But when we open up the detective agency, I figure we'll avoid confusion if I'm known as Hot Pink Cat.

5. YOUR SOAP OPERA NAME: (middle name, city where you were born)

Marie Saint Paul - she just sounds so haughty, doesn't she? And rich. Rich is good.

6. YOUR STAR WARS NAME: (the first 3 letters of your last name, first 2 letters of your first)

I should refuse to do this due to my hatred for Star Wars but maybe we'll pretend this is my Star Trek name.

Vitda. From the planet of Voluptuous Vixens (hey, I can dream).

7. SUPERHERO NAME: (”The” + 2nd favorite color, favorite drink)

The Orange/Purple Water. Yes, not only am I confused and fluctuate between favorite colors, what is my super power? Getting the Super Villain's clothes really, really clean?

8. NASCAR NAME: (the first names of your grandfathers)

Ralph Frederick. Oh, yeah. That just spells classy.

9. STRIPPER NAME: ( the name of your favorite perfume/cologne/scent, favorite candy)

Incognito Skor (they don't make Incognito anymore so I don't know if this counts but it is still my favorite). Haiku Skor (if we're going to be technical and demand my now favorite).

10.WITNESS PROTECTION NAME: (mother’s & father’s middle names )

Ann Earle. Yeah, you know what? I'll face the mob. That just sounds boring.

11. TV WEATHER ANCHOR NAME: (Your 5th grade teacher’s last name, a major city that starts with the same letter)

I don't remember my 5th grade teacher's name. I'm old, people! How about my favorite high school teacher's name? Lambert Lisbon (yes, I could go with Los Angeles but that just sounds dumb. Like Lambert Lisbon sounds so much better).

12. SPY NAME: (your favorite season/holiday, flower)

Spring Daisy. Missy's is Summer Daisy. Obviously we would work for the same organization.

13. CARTOON NAME: (favorite fruit, article of clothing you’re wearing right now + "ie" or "y")

Boysenberry Skirtie. Well, okay, I don't actually eat Boysenberries but I like the jelly. So I suppose it would be Pineapple Skirtie. Because that sounds normal.

14. HIPPIE NAME: (What you ate for breakfast, your favorite tree)

Cheese Willow. I think Missy might be my long-lost younger sister. Because her favorite tree is also the Willow. Although she gets the cool name Java Willow. I'm stuck with Cheese. Guess I won't be a hippie anytime soon.

15. YOUR ROCK STAR TOUR NAME: (”The” + Your fave hobby/craft, fave weather element + “Tour”)

The Playing Computer Roleplaying Games Obsessively Lightning Tour. Yeah, I'm such a dork. Why I chose this over Scrapbooking or Reading, I don't know.

By the way, we're not going to discuss supper last night. It is possible I may have cheated a small bit. But! Instead of ordering 3 tacos and 2 steak taquitos and cheesy fiesta potatoes and a large Baja Blast, instead I only got 2 Cheesy Beefy Melts and a small Baja Blast. So it was a much better choice and I didn't feel like I was going to throw up from eating too much later.

Breakfast was Cheese and Table Water Crackers. No lunch. Not hungry because of the big breakfast. Or not in the mood for soup. One of the two. Still no strips. Getting them tonight.

See you!

Another Interview Meme - this one from Diana

I have managed to come up with questions for Patti & Teri. I'm working on questions for Beth & Sheryl. It's interesting trying to come up with good questions for people. Do I just go with wacky weird Dana questions or do I throw some seriousness into it as well? Hmm. I don't know. I'll continue with them this weekend.

Do you all have plans for the weekend? My plans include going to Beth's and scrapbooking and going to karaoke. I will also be cowering in a corner because, due to Co-worker Eric's penchant for Googling World News, I'm a little freaked out. Did you know that some cranky guy in Ukraine is going to use force on some other cranky guy? Force. What the heck does that mean? Is it deadly force? And apparently China has lots and lots of nuclear things we weren't aware of. They may also use force. I'm not sure on whom, he wasn't clear (or I may have been saying "La la la, I can't hear you!" One of the two). And there are also apparently scientists, quite possibly of the mad variety, adding flesh to computers to make cybermots for the military. What the hell is a cybermot? Add to that the news clip I saw while over at the bank where some guy in prison for drinking the blood of his victim had a botched execution (is it ironic that the executioner dudes couldn't find a vein? I get confused about what is actually irony). And Keem says there are no vampires hiding in the freezer. Ha! They're out there.

Okay, to let you escape from my paranoia of possible dive bombing cybermot vampirical natured bats, let us now turn to the list of questions from Diana. Much more sane. Well, sane for me.

1. If you were a piece of candy, any candy, what would you be?

Ooh! The choices are endless. I really love Anise Squares because they are red and pretty and then have that glorious licorice taste. My Dad got me hooked on them years ago and they bring back memories of him and going to Shakey’s for my birthday for bad pizza and singing waiters. I’m fond of chocolate but only if it has fruit and/or nuts in it. I think I would have to say that I am a piece of English Toffee at heart, sweet, brittle and a little nuts.

2. You seem to frequently be at war with your hair, or at least your hair seems to be at war with you. (Which makes for entertaining reading, let me say.) Is it that it whispers "cut me...dye me scarlet..." while you sleep or is all the experimental hair dressing to delight yourself and those of us who adore you?

I’m going to be completely honest with you. I have no clue. I tend to operate strictly on impulse. If something irritates me, I will deal with it without taking a moment to think “Is this the best idea?” In the case of my bangs, they got in my eyes, I didn’t have any clue when I would get my hair cut again and I just said the heck with it. I have trimmed them before and it was a much better result but this last time I just went without the mirror. Do I regret that? No, because I really love my new haircut – it’s cute and easy to deal with.

As for hair color, I get bored with the same thing over and over so I can never understand just covering the gray with the same hair color nature gave you. There are so many fun colors to experiment with. I think it is my way of rebelling against the normalcy of my mother and sister and also a way to fight off depression. Kind of like getting my nose pierced without pain and nose involved.

3. Would you be an eagle or a dolphin and why?

I just saw this documentary on the new aquarium in Spain and there was this whole segment on the dolphins. They looked so happy and were chattering away at their trainer and my heart melted. Also, I am a Pisces, so I would be at home at the water (but then I would be eating my fishy brethren and that would be wrong). But I do enjoy watching eagles soar. Except that Keem and I were on a drive one day and this eagle came swooping down and grabbed something from the medium and it was a squirrel and I said “Run, squirrel, run” and Keem said “It’s doomed, Dana. It won’t be running anywhere.” I don’t want a life where I would be forced to eat squirrels. I could be a dolgle! A flying dolphin. That would be cool. Or would that be an eaghin?

4. You've been decreed to wed one of the characters on any TV show. Which one is the lucky one?

While I am very fond of both Sawyer and Sayid from Lost, my true love is Hiro from Heroes. He’s perfect for me. Loves Star Trek, comic books, is geeky cute – even loves karaoke. If it doesn’t work out between us, I’m starting to really appreciate the somewhat overbearing charm of Hodges from CSI:

5. What is your favorite song to perform for karaoke? Would you perform it for a national audience?

I enjoy singing “Give Me One Reason” by Tracy Chapman. It allows me to get a little bluesy (bluesy might not be the right word but I can’t think what would be) and get into the music more. Would I perform it for a national audience? Of course I would. I love an audience, the more people the better. Singing karaoke reminds me of being on stage when I was in high school. I miss those days. I’m not saying I’m going to try out for America’s Got Talent because I’m an average singer but if someone asked me to sing, I’d do it.

Oh, bloody Hell. It's back (you should probably not read this if you're a man). Plus a meme from Melissa I forgot about.

Not too much detail because it is, well, icky, and I am not feeling that special joy that comes with being a woman right now. But anyway, I took the Provera while Keem and I were on vacation because, when you are traveling, it becomes a problem if you ruin 3 pairs of pants in one day (well, ruin isn't exactly true but who wants to go to the laundromat on vacation?) and only have 5 pairs for the entire trip. Also, when doing laundry by hand, keep in mind that dish soap and laundry soap are not the same and you will become overwhelmed with bubbles when using dish soap.

So this weekend, my special friend decided to come and visit and bring over every other single woman in the world's special friend with him and make my life less than fun. Even though I was with Beth and we were scrapbooking and that is always fun. It was very confusing funwise for me. Anyway, Beth and I are hanging in her living room and I had to run to the bathroom because she made me laugh and that is just not called for (especially right after I sneezed) because sometimes I do something really REALLY SPECIAL! which I refer to as bleeding through and I hate it.

DM: Well, at least it is a black chair in case there's a problem.
B: Oh, sure, and then I'll sit down on the chair wearing my white pants and I'll ruin them because you have your period.
DM: When do you wear white pants?
B: Occasionally. Okay, not since the 80's.

And then I laughed again because that was very funny.

Anyway, yesterday I ended up going home because of cramps (I don't normally get them) and it was not fun and I may have cried when trying to explain this to my boss (but miracle of miracles, she knows because she's been through the same thing and even had to take Provera as well) and I had to take a cab home because I was so not waiting another hour for a bus but Keem gave me Aleve and four tablets later, the cramps were gone and that is just amazing because nothing normally works. Plus, I talked her into going to Olive Garden because I really, really, really love their Zuppa Toscana (Tuscan Soup?) and if any of you know where I can get a recipe for that, I must have it.

In other news (non-icky related), Keem is back from Fargo but she's going to La Crosse this weekend. The cat actually was cuddly with the concierge while we were gone but hid under the bed when Josh was there (not really surprised by that. Josh is a little more familiar with Eddy than he would like). My brat of a sister has a laptop and can work from home now but her supposed "best friend" who hasn't been responding to any of Kari's emails or phone calls decided to end their friendship because Kari didn't email/call on her birthday or mother's day which strikes me as somewhat hypocritical. I'm going to scrapbook with Beth this weekend as well. Work is good. Life is good (well, when I remember to take my Effexor. Need to find a new spot to put it so it jumps out and says "Hey! Remember me! Take me!"). Hope you are all well. Hoping to get around to websites in the next few days. Busy at work. Not allowed. Why is it like Tax Hell right now?

Love to all of you. Send Bloggy Mojo my way so I don't have to deal with this anymore and maybe I can get a hysterectomy. It's not like I plan on using my uterus any time soon.

Meme from Melissa

1. If you couldn't be the Karaoke Queen of The Chalet, what would you do on those nights instead, and what would your new title be?

You mean besides sleep? On Thursday nights, Beth and I don’t usually get up to the Chalet until about 12-12:30 so I would definitely go to bed at a normal time on Thursday and not be ready to die from lack of sleep on Fridays. On Sundays we’d probably meet Liz and James somewhere & talk – it would be hours and hours of after karaoke. My title, of course, would be Queen of the Universe – that would never change.

2. You meet a fantastic man. If you had to pick, would Mr. Fantastic give you A-mind-blowing sex every night and good conversation once a year or B-mind-blowing conversation every night and good sex only once a year? Why?

B – Good conversation every night and good sex only once a year. That’s easy to answer. First of all, I’ve been celibate for years and sex is not that important to you after you make it past the first year, let alone the eighth. Second, there is no way I could ever be with anyone I couldn’t talk to about everything and anything.

3. What is your greatest strength and what is your greatest weakness?

Greatest strength would have to be my ability to find amusement in just about anything. I am constantly entertaining myself with little screen plays that run through my head or things I see or hear or read. I am definitely never bored.

My greatest weakness would either be that, without my friends and family, I would probably starve to death or end up in debtor’s prison. Beth, Keem and my sister Kari are great at keeping me focused. I am not a responsible adult and I am more than aware of that. I’d like to think that I would cook for myself if I needed to but I’m pretty sure I would exist only on Ramen and peanut butter and baloney sandwiches (shut up. They’re pretty good).

4. Name five things you absolutely could not live without. Family, friends, pets and modern conveniences are exempted from your choices here. Be creative. ;)

Zoe (my camera).
Blogger and the people I have met through blogging (IRL & on the web).
Books. Books are the most important thing in the world outside of friends, family, etc. I always have to have something to read.
Karaoke. My soul requires the music (okay, that was weird but we’ll throw actual music in here as well).
Food and water.

5. What are a few things you'd like to either experience or accomplish before you die, and what is the reasoning behind them?

Live in Portugal for at least a year. My reasoning? It’s awesome there.
Travel through Europe. Again with the awesome.
Bring peace and harmony to the world using my patented charm. Because I am awesome.

Apparently I should have put the word awesome on the above list. Dang you, really funny actors on How I Met Your Mother! Dang you!

Don't forget to post the rules!

Leave me a comment saying "Interview me!" I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions. You will update your weblog with the answers to the questions. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

Boy, this is kind of a bossy meme, isn't it? You will...you will...you will...you will provide Dana with chocolate (just seeing if you're paying attention).

A Year in Review

1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
Fell in love. Really and truly. Not fake infatuation crap. The fact that it's unrequieted just makes it even more fun and exciting. I know. It's sad. But it works, in its own little twisted way. I adore him, he's a great friend and neither of us would have the slightest idea to make a relationship work.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any last year. I'm not planning on it for this year. Well, that's not true. I'm going to ask Deb about the lap band. I'm not sure that it'll go any farther than that but I'm going to ask.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth or adopt?
No.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No. However, Eric's aunt Jo died on Friday which is sad.

5. What countries did you visit?
Canada.

6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
A receipt from the IRS saying that I've paid them. It's not going to happen but one can dream, right?

7. What dates from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
January 15, 2006. The day that I told James how I felt about him. And compared him to Batman. Adam West Batman. Good Lord, what was I thinking? Oh, right. I was drunk.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Moving to the counter. Getting to be the back-up Quality Assurance Monitor.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Fail? Me? Please. I like to think of them as unexpected pit stops on the road of life. I would have to say that it would be completely screwing up my checkbook twice and ending up in major debt. Extreme debt. I'm sort of coming out of it but I'm still getting a lot of calls from creditors.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Oh, yeah. Bronchitis is not our friend.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Does my new apartment count? I didn't buy it, I'm renting it but I love it.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Beth and Keem. Two of the greatest people ever. If not for them, I wouldn't be here.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
A former friend who decided that he was going to completely cut himself out of our lives by telling a whole bunch of lies. It didn't really depress me, it just pissed me off.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Um, overdraft fees.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Going to Canada with Beth. Road trips are so awesome.

16. What song will always remind you of 2006?
Whatever song Bryan comes up with on the weird half drum/half guitar like instrument that Beth and I gave him for Christmas.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder?
happier
b) thinner or fatter?
fatter
c) richer or poorer?
poorer

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I don't know, actually. Getting rid of stuff before I moved, I suppose.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Getting sick. I hate being sick.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Well, it's after Christmas. Mainly I spent Christmas Eve with Eric, Kari and Josh at Rob and Betty's. Christmas Day I spent at home. Listening to Eddy meow because I'm not Keem.

21. Did you fall in love in 2006?
I admited I was in love in 2006. That was hard.

22. How many one-night stands?
Excuse me while I laugh hysterically. That would be a big fat zero. Not that I wish I would have had a one-night stand, exactly, but you know what I mean.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
HEROES! Lost, How I Met Your Mother and The Class as well.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I try very hard not to hate anyone. I don't hate the former friend I mentioned, I'm just glad he's no longer in my life.

25. What was the best book you read?
Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's Good Omens. Jodi Picoult's My Sister's Keeper (even though it made me cry horribly). There are too many to list.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Ok Go. I love them.

27. What did you want and get?
To kiss James. Granted, I was really drunk at the time but I can still summon the tingle I felt in my lips.

28. What did you want and not get?
You know, I don't know. I don't think I really want for anything. I've got good friends, a great apartment, a good job and wonderful happy pills. Life is pretty great.

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
I can't say that I had a favorite. I really liked Superman Returns. I can't think of what else I saw, other than X-Men 3. I pretty much like every movie I've ever seen, except for two.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Spent it with Beth. Went to the Chalet. Got a card from James.

Obviously I was repressing about my age. I was 39. Sigh.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I don't think I really am lacking anything. Even my unrequieted love works for me. I'm not good at relationships at all and, as weird as it seems, it's nice to know that I love him. As frustrating as it may be to know that he's quite possibly the most perfect guy in the world for me, in the long run, I'm better off not dwelling over what might be and concentrating on what a great friend he is. Of course, this will change when I see him again and fall all over for that stupid goofy smile of his and then I will want to smack him across the forehead for not recognizing my greatness.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Fashion? What is this fashion you speak of? Right now I'm sitting here in my oversized linty black shirt that I managed to spill ketchup on, with my graying hair that I'm too lazy to dye myself and which I hacked my bangs off. I am a fashion nightmare. Not that I care. Oh. I guess that's my fashion concept. I don't care.

33. What kept you sane?
Beth. Keem. Effexor and Seraquel

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I fell half in love with Hiro on Heroes. More with the character than the guy that plays him but Masi Oka is pretty damn cute.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Stupid people voting against gay marriage. Again.

36. Who did you miss?
Johnny. I really want to see her again. I really want to be in Portugal.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
Diana. Well, meeting her in real life.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006:
Don't stop taking your Happy Pills! They're there for a reason (yes, as I type this, I have run out of them but I see Deb on January 2nd and Effexor takes forever to leave your system).

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Either "It’s no dream; we can live the world anew" or "Invincible oh oh oh
So please use your powers for good. Please use your powers for good." The first song is by Jim Broggia - Live the Proof (discovered on Pandora). The second song is from Ok Go.

Oh my golly, have a holly jolly meme I've never seen before

Found this at Robert~Marlene's blog. Been too long since I've been over his way. So nice to have hi-speed Internet so I can visit more often!

Explain what ended your last relationship? Um. Let me think. Oh, I suppose it might have been him* saying to me, a week before we moved in together, that we should just be friends. And even though we still had a "relationship" (in other words, we had sex once a week on Sundays. I don't know why Sundays. I think it was because it was the only day off we had together) for awhile, it pretty much ended when he started dating this busty and incredibly stupid woman. She was welcome to him. He was a nice enough guy but he was extremely condescending at times.

*The link doesn't really have anything to do with him - it's just the only post I remember ever writing about the guy.

When was the last time you shaved? I think it was on Monday. Tuesday was a business casual day and I needed to wear a skirt.

What were you doing this morning at 8 a.m.? At work. Answering calls. Oh, the excitement.

What were you doing 15 minutes ago? Reading Robert~Marlene's blog. Were you not paying attention?

Are you any good at math? Pfft. No. I can add, sort of, I can even multiply (preferably with calculator. I'm better at subtraction and division (not long!) but fractions can throw me for a complete loop. Let's not talk about algebra, okay? I sometimes have nightmares about algebra.

Your prom night, what do you remember about it? Hmm. Let's see. I was dating Mark then (my first boyfriend, he of the comic book addiction and life of crime stealing road signs) and we decided not to go to Prom. Instead I had sex for the second time in my life, in the back seat of an Omni (NOT recommended. Omni's are horribly small little hatchbacks. The rest is detailed in the popular Green Duckies story - The Tale of the Blue Stiffy.

Do you have any famous ancestors? Yes, I do. There's an Edmund Vittum who wrote several books, including one called The Vittum Folks. There is also Harriet Vittum who was a famous lawyer. And there's some Belgium violinist with the last name Vieuxtemps who is also a relative (pretty much anyone with the last name Vittum or Vieuxtemps is related to me).

Have you had to take a loan out for school? No. I got a Pell Grant.

Last thing received in the mail? My cable bill. I'm really irritated with them because I still have not had my installation waived. And is it really worth it to have cable and hi-speed internet when it costs $120 a month? Possibly.

How many different beverages have you had today? Two. Water and Mountain Dew.

Do you ever leave messages on people’s answering machine? What would be the alternative? Whistling Dixie?

Who did you lose your CONCERT virginity to? Helen Reddy. I know. And, to quote Robert~Marlene "Oh, and by the way, it's 'To whom did you lose your concert virginity?'"

Do you draw your name in the sand when you go to the beach? I don't think so. I'm pretty sure I just pretend I am making sand castles but really I'm just using it as an excuse to dig a lot of holes.

What’s the most painful dental procedure you’ve had? I have summed it up quite well here. The pain and horror of dealing with the UltraSonic Scaler. As a Pisces, I should have known anything to do with a scaler is bad.

What is out your back door? I don't have a back door. Unless you count the door leading to the parking ramp.

Any plans for Friday night? No. It's Friday right now. Mainly I'll be listening to my cat meow a lot because I'm not Keem. Perhaps I will have a cookie.

Do you like what the ocean does to your hair? I don't get this question. What makes the ocean so much different than swimming in a pool or a lake?

Have you ever received one of those big tins of 3 different popcorns? I used to work for a Kandy Shoppe and may have even bought one of these tins. They are fairly annoying, actually.

Have you ever been to a planetarium? I believe so. I think there is one here in Minnesota. I seem to remember a lot of stars on the ceiling. I may have been rather young but I remember it was cool.

Do you re-use towels after you shower? I do. I hate laundry.

Some things you are excited about? Christmas. Going to karaoke on New Year's Eve. Having a 3 day weekend two weeks in a row.

What is your favorite flavor of JELL-O? I'm not overly fond of JELL-O. I suppose I like orange. I'm more of a fan of JELL-O pudding.

Describe your keychain(s)? One Batman figurine, one Serenity key-chain, two Sharpies that Beth's mom gave me (Beth's mom rocks). One key.

Where do you keep your change? In my purse until I feed it to Pig. Pig likes change. Then I rob Pig when I am tired and need Mountain Dew.

When was the last time you spoke in front of a large group of people? Um, no clue. I sing in front of large groups of people (well, no, not really).

What kind of winter coat do you own? It is faux leather. It used to be Keem's. It has a hood and these weird hanging things that have, in less than 5 minutes, got stuck on the garbage bag thingy in Keem's car and then, after I finally released myself, got shut in the car door.

What was the weather like on your graduation day? That was in 1985. I'm pretty sure that it had to have been raining because graduation took place in the gym.

Do you sleep with the door to your room open or closed? Partially closed. I sleep in the nude but Eddy needs to get inside to use the litter box.

Wasn't that fun? I do love the memes. And here is a shiny blogthing for you all.

You Are a Yule Log

While you do have holiday spirit, you have a secret, heathen past.

This post is brought to you by the letter "Q"

I was reading Udge’s blog today and every time I left a comment, the word verification thingy would have “Q’s” in it. Now, you might be wondering why I would notice “Q’s” and it is very simple. I like them. They remind me of Star Trek: TNG and the nickname for myself that one of the managers at the NABABNA phone center came up for me – QotU (which is Queen of the Universe). “Q’s” are happy letters. At least they make me happy. They are sort of like BALLOONS! to me. They are vaguely BALLOONS! shaped when you think about it.

Because “Q’s” make me happy and I could use some happiness (nothing’s majorly* wrong, I’m just sick of being sick and almost hacked up a ton of Mountain Dew this morning because some moron decided today would be the perfect day to drill holes in the counter and the dust was horrible and I couldn’t breathe and my inhaler is pretty much empty and then I started thinking about The Hand That Rocks the Cradle and that really bad scene where that lady almost dies because Rebecca DeMornay has gone psycho and is blaming her for her husband’s death (who is played by John DeLancie by the way who played Q on Star Trek: TNG which is kind of cool when you think about it because my mind goes in these weird looping circles but always comes back together) and then I kind of freaked and I started coughing and then had to walk away from the counter and hide out in the bathroom for awhile), I’ve decided to bring you a list of some of my favorite “Q’s.”

*Did you know that majorly technically is not a word? Spell Check rejects it and I had to check Dictionary.com to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind. Apparently it is slang and got its start between 1980-1985. Boy, can I date myself. Between this and rockin’ I just scream “Hey, I graduated in ’85!”

Anyway, without further ado, I bring you a list of “Q” words that make me happy:

Actually, sorry, I need to let you know that today’s word of the day is “flibbertigibbet” and I love that word. It’s so cute. Okay. Let’s carry on. No more distractions. I promise.

Please. You believed me? No more distractions? No, I now bring you a conversation between Co-worker John, Co-worker Rykken and myself:

DM: We have a Thesaurus (up at the counter (which I just discovered this morning)). Do we have a dictionary?
Co-worker John: I don’t think so.
DM: But I need a dictionary. I need a list of “Q” words.
Co-worker Rykken: Why?
DM: Because I am doing a post on my favorite “Q” words.
Co-worker Rykken (Laughing): Well, if they’re your favorite “Q” words, why do you need a dictionary? Shouldn’t you know what they are?
DM: See, I knew you’d get logical on me. I need to look at them and be reminded which ones are my favorite.

Co-worker John does not try to be logical (he has learned it doesn’t work, especially since I just accused him of conspiring with Beth about chicken) but starts listing off “Q” words. Rykken does as well.

Co-worker Rykken: Queen.
DM: Well, of course I love that word.
Co-worker Rykken: Queue.
DM: I love that word. It is very cool.
Co-worker Rykken: Yes. It is one of my favorites as well. But you have to wonder why there is the extra “UE?” It doesn’t make any sense.
DM: I know! That’s part of the fun.
Co-worker Rykken: Exactly.

So there are times when Co-worker Rykken and I do see eye to eye. Well, not really, since he is very tall (and bearded. I love the beard. I refrain from telling him that, though. I don’t want to scare him. I already told him he was very rugged and lumber-jacky once) but close enough.

Okay. Favorite “Q” words. Here we go.

Quack – Well, of course. How could I not love it? Ducks quack. I like ducks. I like rubber duckies. And green duckies. And real ducks, of course. In fact, I’m pretty much fond of all birds. Except vultures. They’re not that cute. And I doubt very much that they chirp.

Quaint – It’s just a sweet way of saying odd, don’t you think?

Quite – I like it because adding it to a phrase makes you sound somewhat British. And we all know what an Anglophile I am.

Quartet – I am a secret fan of Barbershop Quartets. I love four part harmony. Oh, let’s face it; I love all harmony, mainly because I couldn’t harmonize if my life depended on it. It’s kind of like winking.

Quantum – Only because it reminds me of Quantum Leap and all that Scott Bakula/Dean Stockwell goodness.

Quash – Because it is like thwack – a word that sounds like what it means. Onomatopoeia is a stupid word for something I adore. Mainly because I don’t know how to spell it half the time.

Queer – But I only like it when it means bizarre or curious or eccentric or oddball or outlandish or peculiar (hmm, can you guess that I pressed the Thesaurus into duty?). I do not like any other meaning that people may have put upon it. Which is one of the reasons why I don’t use it very often.

Quell – CRUSH! Annihilate, squash, suppress! Onomatopoeia strikes again! I quell the forces of evil with just one look! My God, I am a dork.

Quick – For some reason, every time I have to do a rush, I also say “Quick like bunny (but more like “queek”). I do not know why this is. No one seems to know why this is. It drives me nuts but it is so much fun to say.

Quip – Because they are funny. I like the funny.

Quagna – Just because he was hot and it was a pretty damn funny story.

Quizzical – It has a “Q” and a “Z.” Did I mention I like “Z’s?” Because I do. Not so much words that start with “Z’s” but words that have “Z’s” in them. Like quizzical and pizza and bizarre.

That is pretty much it. No, I’m not desperate for posting ideas at all. Why do you ask?

Do you have favorite “Q” words? Or is there a letter of the alphabet that you are fonder of then the others?

And just because it made me laugh:

Your Pickup Line Is
Do you have a Bandaid? Cos I just scraped my knee falling for you.

Hey, when I promised a post about not being sick, no one said it couldn't be a meme

This is the one via Ruth which I gleefully stole from Beth:

Favorite seasonal movie? – How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the original one, mind you), It’s a Wonderful Life
Song you most enjoy this time of year? – O Holy Night (preferably NOT the Josh Groban one, he doesn’t do it justice), Silent Night and I’m also quite fond of the Heat Miser/Snow Miser songs
Decorate, inside? Outside? – I’m really not a decorator myself. We live in an apartment so it is a bit difficult to decorate outside. I have put my trio of holiday rubber duckies in my bathroom. Next to my Santa Frog.
Do you make a list? If so, how many people are on it? – A list would indicate that I am organized. I am not organized.
How up to the last minute do you shop? – I am sometimes still shopping after Christmas, depending on when the person and I get together to exchange gifts.
When do you open your gifts? – Whenever I get the chance. I can be sneaky. I used to open presents long before Christmas, being careful to not rip the paper. Mom caught on and started using way too much tape so I couldn’t open the presents.
Holiday food you most savor? – I would kill for Slacie Klace, if I knew how to spell it or make it. It is a very German recipe and I haven’t had it since my Grandmother died.
Favorite holiday book? – I could be really annoying and say it is the Bible but I would be lying (plus, in the move, I may have accidentally thrown my Bibles away (I am so going to Hell but they reminded me of unpleasant people and I don’t need the memories)). If pressed, I would probably say How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
New Year Resolutions? – Um, yeah. What’s the point? I’m going to break them. Although I did keep the following New Year’s Resolution – in 1990, I vowed to kiss every guy at the party I was at. In 2005, I vowed not to kill anyone.

Added questions:
Wrapping paper or gift bags? – Please. Gift bags. I am all about the convenience. One year I ended up doing decorative gift boxes because it was easier than gift bags.
Real tree or artificial? – I’m allergic to real.
When do you put up the tree? – Whenever Keem decides. This year we’re not putting one up. No biggie. She’s thinking we might go for a tabletop next year. Not a bad idea considering we don’t have any room for a tree.
Do you like eggnog? – Blech. I like the idea of eggnog. I just can’t stand the taste of it.
Favorite gift received as a child? – Books, books and more books. It was awesome. I don’t know where she got them but my Mom gave me something like 20 books, including the first Trixie Belden book.
Do you have a nativity scene? – Somewhere. It’s made out of Quartz. Or some sort of crystal thing. It’s kind of tacky but cute.
Hardest person to buy for? – Oh, that’s easy. Beth. We have completely different tastes and she is less likely to be fascinated by a pop-up map of the Twin Cities.
Easiest person to buy for? – Kari. She tells me what she wants, I give her money and she goes and picks it up.
Worst Christmas gift you ever received? – Last night, when shopping with Beth, we had the following conversation:

DM: I don’t think I can think of a Christmas present I ever received that I didn’t like.

Brief pause.

DM: Oh, wait, yes, I can.
Beth: Was it an El Camino model that you have to put together?
DM: Yes, it was. Please. Did the guy* know me at all? You know what the difference between him and you are? You would never buy me a model El Camino.
Beth: No, I’d probably drive you around and have your picture taken with various El Caminos.
DM: Yeah! That would be so cool. Or you would put the stupid model together for me and paint it orange, like you know I want my future one to be.

*Adam. And no, he didn’t know me at all. He also once gave me an urn. Granted, the urn has pandas on it and I like pandas but I still keep looking at it and wondering whose ashes I’m going to put into it.

Mail or email Christmas cards? – Um, yeah, I forget to do either. I’m thinking about doing a Christmas letter one of these years. Just for the heck of it. I promise not to be totally smarmy.
When do you start Christmas shopping? – Last paycheck before Christmas.
Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? – Not technically. Recycling indicates that the person doesn’t know it was given to you previously. I usually will say “Hey, I got this and I have no use for it. Want it?”
Clear lights or colored on the tree? – Don’t do the decoration but I am all about the colors. Multiple colors. Bright. Shiny. Yay!
Travel at Christmas or stay home? – Where would I go?
Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? – Um, you know Dasher and Dancer and Comet and Cupid. Somebody and somebody and Donner and somebody else. I think that would be a no. Wasn’t one of them named Bashful?
Angel or Star on the tree top? – You know, if I keep asking Keem these questions, she’s going to hurt me. The correct answer would be “How the heck do I know? I don’t pay attention to these things.”
Most annoying thing about this time of year? – People. People in their shoving, pushing, annoying, let’s forget the whole reason behind Christmas in our need to outdo everything we did last year, cranky, grumpy way. Did I ever mention that I spent 10 years working in the mall at Christmas? Yeah, not a big fan of the shopping this time of year.

O Memey Meme, the memes were brightly memeing

Welcome to the 2006 Holiday* Edition of Getting to Know Your Friends! You know the drill. Don't be a Scrooge McDuck!!!

*Yeah, they say holiday but this is all about Christmas. Not a Hanakkuh or Kwaanza question in the bunch. I apologize for this meme's obvious bias. But I was bored.

1. Eggnog or Hot Chocolate? Hot chocolate. Eggnog is disgusting. Although I do like the smell of it.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just put them under the tree? He wraps them.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? I don’t know. Keem does the decorating. I think it’s colored lights on the tree.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? No but hmm, maybe I should start doing that. Especially at the Chalet.

5. When do you put your decorations up? I don’t. I like to be surprised. Keem puts up the tree and I take pictures of Eddy helping her.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? I’m not sure of the spelling and I haven’t had it in years but it is Slacie Klase and it is this very heavy German dish made out of potatoes that sits at the bottom of your stomach like a rock but is so worth being really uncomfortable right after you eat.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child: Sneaking up on my mom in the basement and seeing her wrap tons and tons of books as a present for me. Going to my Grandmother’s house for Christmas.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? What are you insinuating here? What truth about Santa? He’s not an axe murderer, is he?

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? We always got to open one gift as kids. Now I go to two celebrations, Eric’s Dad’s house on Christmas Eve and Eric’s Mom’s house on Christmas Day.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? I don’t. Keem does. I think it has blue stuff on it. And lights. Maybe a garland or two.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? I have mixed feelings about snow. I can handle a little bit of it, especially if it is fluffy. But I can’t stand the really wet, thick stuff that makes everyone tense about driving.

12. Can you ice skate? I haven’t been on ice skates in at least 25 years. The correct answer is no.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? I’ve got some awesome gifts over the years – my barrister bookshelf from Mom and Kari, wonderful presents at the Sheepsheadian Gift Exchanges but the best present would be Panda. My Grandmother gave him to me when I was 7 and he’s going to be 32 this year. Right now he’s been skinned and is hanging in my shower, waiting for new stuffing and to be sewed in some places.

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you? I want to say presents but that’s just wrong (but I really like presents) so I’ll say getting together with family and friends and watching Josh’s excitement and interpretive dances (he’s so my nephew).

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Pecan Pie, baby. Bring it on. I am also fond of Cinnamon ice cream with some sort of apple thing.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? I don’t really have one. Since Kari’s the only close relative I have here, I just go where she tells me I’m going. I will say that I’m very fond of the Swedish meatballs that Rob makes for Christmas Eve. Yum.

17. What tops your tree? Again with the tree questions? Do you not pay attention? I don’t do the decorating.

18. Which do you prefer - giving or receiving? I am equally fond of both. Receiving is awesome but it is also a lot of fun to come up with theme gifts for Beth and Keem. Not that I have any clue what my theme is this year.

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? Silent Night (Franz Gruber is my many great uncle by marriage), O Holy Night (but I’m getting sick of Kool 108 only playing the Josh Groban version) and Blue Christmas (Hey, I love Elvis. Shup).

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum? It’s not so much yum as it is fun to suck on the candy cane and make it into a point and then stab your sister with it (okay, we were young. And yes, we got into a lot of trouble. But no one put out an eye). I do like candy canes with hot chocolate, preferably with some peppermint schnapps added. Or butterscotch schnapps but you really can't put candy canes in that, it just tastes funny then.

This was fun. If you’re interested, try it yourself. I needed a new post.

My reaction to this was "Oh, great. That's just awesome." Why, yes, I was being sarcastic. How'd you know?

I am running out of transcripts and I am bored so I am inflicting a meme on you. So there.

Hi. I stole this from Diana awhile ago. I just never got around to posting it. Nothing overly exciting has been happening lately so here you go.

Three Things Meme:

Three People Who Make Me Laugh (besides anyone who writes a blog that I read (oh, I guess that would be all of you!):

Beth – When I was laughing hysterically, bent over wheezing, we had the following conversation.

DM: Oh, my God, you’re going to kill me.
Beth: Yes, that’s my plan. I’m a paid assassin hired by Jeff (my (sob) former roommate)).
DM: You are the slowest assassin in the world.
Beth: Yeah, but you’re having a good time, right?

Keem – especially when she confronted by my less than logical personality. We have had many an argument over things like blueberries or hair accessories. She usually wins.

Last night, as she was flipping back and forth through the channels:

DM: No! Flip back! Back!
Keem: I am the flipper. You are the flippee. See?

She flips me off.

DM: That is not funny.
Keem: You laughed! Therefore it is funny!

James, Liz and Bryan (technically, yes, you could counter with “But that’s three people. You can’t use one entry to describe three people” and I would reply with “Did you see the above about Keem where I mentioned my less than logical personality?” And if you think you can say “Well, you said Keem usually wins” let me remind you that you are not Keem and cannot threaten me with the horror of taking the bus to work) – They are hilarious separately but if you put the three together, they are Superheroes of Laughter. Add Beth and I’m sure to snort.

Three Things I Can Do:

Make people laugh. This is, incidentally, one of my favorite things to do in the entire world.

Suspend disbelief and enjoy just about every movie ever made without questioning. Yes, I may say “Hmm, I’m pretty sure I know what’s going to happen next” or “Hmm, this quite possibly may be the dumbest movie ever” but I’ll still probably enjoy it. Especially if it makes me laugh. Or there’s a car chase. Or a sword fight that may or may not involve stairs. And someone with an accent (preferably British) who may or may not be sword fighting while making snarky quips while driving either a getaway car or a pursuing car.

I should probably mention that this viewpoint is not applied towards books. I get really ticked off if books are predictable, stupid or written badly. I’m not sure why that is.

Collect things. I have the following collections – A&W mugs, green glass, pandas, 5,000,000 books and now the newest one which is frogs. I used to collect smiley faces but that got old fast. That many yellow smiley faces staring at you gets really kind of creepy after awhile. I still have a few of them (actually, I may have all of them. They might be in a box and one of these days I will open the box (since Keem and I are moving, we decided “Hey, why don’t we go through some of these boxes now that we’ve been living here for four years?”) and then scream loudly because they will be staring at me. With that look. You know, that blank smiley look that says “Hi, Dana. We’re going to get you now.”), including the small stuffed one that has approximately 30 t-pins stuck into it. My former boss looked at it and said “Dana. You are insane.” And I said “You’re just figuring this out now?” I kind of like that one.

Three Things I Can't Do:

Stop reading. I have found myself reading cereal boxes or sugar packets if I am desperate enough (Mom wouldn’t let me read at the table. Which is just cruel). I have also learned to read upside down from this same time period, when Dad would read the paper and I would keep my sanity by reading the folded over section. This has awed many a stock owner when I start reading their statements (and etc) upside down.

Be logical. I understand the concept of logic but if it doesn’t correspond with what I want, I will dismiss it. I can sometimes reach the same information as a logical person (such as Beth and Keem) but my brain takes a much different loop. It’s kind of like balancing a checkbook. I know how to do it and can explain it to someone else; I just can’t do it for myself.

Stop snorting. Oh, it is so irritating but if I laugh hard enough, I start snorting. Many conversations with the people that make me laugh will end with “Stop making me snort, dang it!”

Three Things I'm Doing Right Now:

Training someone on how to work the counter. Trying to keep from strangling her because she is an IDIOT! My God, you’ve been working here as long as I have. It’s just like processing a phone transaction, only face to face. Sheesh. The nice thing is, while she’s helping the stock holder, I’m working on this in Word (since I’m not allowed to be online during calls because of annoying people who decided to ruin the internet access for everyone because they suck (and this is why I’m going to be very slow catching up on blog reading because I can only do this on lunches and breaks)).

Practically devouring a bag of quite possibly the best granola ever. It includes dried cherries, cranberries, raisins, almonds and pecans. Oh, and some rolled oats as well. Because apparently you need that for the granola part.

Trying to figure out if I want to do the following – get my hair cut (I want to say chopped but that would defeat the purpose of growing it out for the last year), talk to my doctor about some lap band operation that is less invasive than gastric bypass, apply for an operations manager position (tempting but I’m not sure I meet enough of the qualifications), update my resume (because even if I don’t apply, it would be smart), come up with something for Thursday Thirteen and stage a revolt that would end up with my being proclaimed Queen of the Universe officially (except that I don’t really have that many followers and I’m not sure I can pull it off. Maybe we should start small, say President? It could be a write in vote. Except I’m really not sure I want to be President. I mean, I know I’d do a better job than Bush but the whole point is there’s a big difference between being the Queen of the Universe and the President). Maybe I’ll just stick with this meme and the Thursday Thirteen.

Three Things I Want To Do Before I Die:

Go to the United Kingdom. Convince Rowan Atkinson that it would be in his best interest to marry me and then introduce Beth and Keem to Hugh Grant and Colin Firth and we would all live happily ever after and travel lots and take many pictures and go to many movie premieres. Or not. After all, Rowan Atkinson is married and I’m not a big fan of the breaking of marriages. Maybe he has an equally zany and rich brother. Or knows Stanley Tucci well. That’s a thought. Or maybe just go to the United Kingdom.

Get my driver’s license. I did say I wanted it before I was 40 but that’s less than 6 months away and I don’t think it’s going to happen any time soon.

Buy a frame for the cross stitch thing I made for Diana and mail it to her.

Three Things I Hate The Most:

Tomatoes. They are evil. And Raspberries and Peaches are equally evil. I am also not fond of kiwis but they are not as bad as tomatoes, raspberries and peaches. Tomatoes & company are the spawn of Satan. Kiwis are a distant cousin of Satan and only really just see him at the family reunions.

Stupid people that distract from the enjoyment of karaoke. These are, but not limited to, the Black Hat Mafia’s entourage that like to get into fights with people, extremely drunken people who are even past the “Hee! Let’s laugh at them a lot!” stage, weird people who are creepy, karaoke divas and also the occasional racist (they don’t last long. Bryan has no qualms about kicking them out right away).

Fundamentalists. They give born again Christians a bad name. Just because I am born again does not make me a freak that thinks I’m better than everyone else because they are different. George W Bush is really high up on this list but I hate him for other reasons.

Three Things That Scare Me:

The thought of Jeb Bush becoming our next President. Actually, the thought of anyone with the name of Bush becoming our next President. I’m all for another Clinton, though.

Vampires. They’re out there. Lurking. Quite possibly in my freezer.

Clowns. They are creepy. No one could ever be that happy. Well, other than me on happy pills.

Three Things That Stress Me Terribly:

Money and my lack of it. Trying to calculate how I’m going to get out of debt anytime soon.

Math. I just don’t understand (well, this would be more complicated math. Not basic math like 1+1 = 2. That I know). This might be related to my previous stress item somehow.

Having to wait somewhere without a book. I get twitchy.

Three Things I Don't Understand:

Parents who allow their pre-teen girls to dress like tramps (aka Paris Hilton). I’m sorry, but your little girl doesn’t need to be wearing a shirt that says “Foxy” or “I love boys” or something stupid like that. And she certainly shouldn’t be wearing a mini-skirt. Or massive amounts of makeup. I’m not saying she should have to dress like a nun but please, that’s just wrong. Actually, I’m against all women dressing like tramps. There’s nothing wrong with a little cleavage but control yourself a little, okay? No one wants to see your thong. There’s a huge difference between classy sexy and “Hi! I’m a whore!” And no, I do not believe if a woman dresses like this, she deserves what she gets, okay? I’m just saying let’s show a little restraint. Allow for a sense of mystery.

People that get all snobby when you mention a television show or a certain author or a movie. I get that not everyone likes to watch TV. I get that not everyone is into Nora Roberts (or Sidney Sheldon or whomever). I even get that not everyone likes the same movies as I do. But c’mon. It’s one thing for Beth to say politely, when asked if she watches a certain television show, “You know, I really don’t watch a lot of TV.” But it’s another thing to give that “I’m so much better than you” look and say “Ha ha ha, silly mortal. I don’t even own a television.” Yeah. Bite me. Or “Oh, I don’t waste my time on books like that. I only read the classics.” You know what? Earnest Hemingway is considered a fantastic author and many of his books are referred to as “classics.” But I can’t stand reading anything written by him. It’s all a matter of taste.

Why all of my answers for this meme are 400 words long? Sheesh. Run on much, Dana?

Three Skills I'd Like To Learn:

How to pull my ideas for books out of my head and on to paper so I could finish a stupid book and then be rich and famous.

To be calm and collected, even when nervous. I have a tendency to babble.

To use my powers for good. It’s so rough being an evil genius.

Three Ways To Describe My Personality:

Dorky.

Goofy.

Adorable (you’ll notice that I left modest off of here, right?).

Three Things I Think You Should Listen To:

The musical stylings of Bryan McDonald. I realize that this will require a trip to Minnesota so you can come to the Chalet but I’m okay with that. It would be fun. Think of it as blogging material. And we could scrapbook!

The little voice in your head that tells you not to do bad things. I think it’s called your conscience.

Birds. I like birds. They chirp. You should go to a pet store and listen to them. It’s fun. And sometimes they will do tricks.

Three Things You Should Never Listen To:

The musical stylings of boy bands. I hate boy bands. Girl bands are kind of annoying as well. And no, the Beatles are not considered a boy band. This doesn’t mean that I can’t enjoy the occasional karaoke rendition of “I Want It That Way” because usually the people singing are mocking the boy bands. And that, my friends, is a good thing.

The little voice in your head that tells you to do bad things. I’m not saying that I have a little voice in my head but there are some people who have come very close to getting pushed off a 50 story building (okay, no, I’m afraid of heights but my very favorite Gary Larson cartoon is the one with the guy who says to his friend something about do you ever have that thought about pushing someone and his friend looks a little scared and yes, I’m not very good at descriptions. I know this).

Crickets. They irritate me with their smug cricket sounds. Plus they will sometimes hide in boots and scare the crap out of people. That is wrong.

Three Favorite Foods:

Chocolate. But only milk chocolate. And only milk chocolate that has something in it, such as nuts or fruit. Or, even better, fruit and nuts. I loved the Chunky bar.

Bread. And butter. Or, even better, with garlic butter and cheese and maybe some green olives. Because bread by itself is kind of boring. The more exciting bread the better. Super Target actually has Portuguese artisan bread and that makes me happy because the bread is thick and crunchy but yet soft. Yum. It makes really excellent Supreeze Bread.

The baseball steak at Manny’s. Top sirloin, medium, with garlic butter over the top. Do you know how you can tell if a steak is really, really good? When you don’t need A1 or Heinz 57 sauce and can just close your eyes and savor the steaky goodness.

Three Beverages I Drink Regularly:

Water. Water is our friend. I have even got to the point where I have started to crave it. Which is disturbing.

Mountain Dew. It’s supposed to be just on Mondays and Fridays and whenever I am over at Beth’s but sometimes I will have it on a Wednesday. But only because I am really tired. Not because I crave the lovely ambrosia that it is. Really.

Diet Sobe Elixir. It’s not regular but only when I go to Quizno’s because they have it in the fountain and I will actually pass up Mountain Dew for this. It is a refreshing cranberry and grapefruit fruit beverage. The fact that I like the flavor of cranberry and grapefruit combined frightens me a little.

Three shows I watched as a kid:

Electric Company.

Superfriends. I was crazy about Aquaman. But despised those stupid Wonder Twins.

Batman. Adam West Batman. Sigh.

I also remember HR Puff N’ Stuff, The Bugaloos, Sigmund (?) and the Sea Monsters and Electra Woman and Dyna Girl.

Three People I'd Tag:

That blonde chick

The guy in the corner over there

That lady who cuts in front of me at the supermarket.

In other words, if you want to do it, do it. If not, hope you had fun reading. This has kept my sanity when not being able to go online.
